About Us
Our mission is "...to assist economically disadvantaged young men and women to complete high school and graduate from college."
Saratoga Sponsor-A-Scholar is a Saratoga Springs-based program modeled after Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar, a successful organization founded in 1996 that serves students in Albany, Schenectady and Troy. The mission of SSAS is to help financially eligible young men and women in Saratoga Springs complete high school and graduate from college. SSAS provides the young scholars enrolled in the program with mentors, academic tutoring, help with college preparation and financial assistance during college.
With the help of Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar, the Saratoga Springs City School District, Skidmore College, the Saratoga Mentoring Program and a group of committed community leaders, SSAS launched in the spring of 2008. The first group of 10 sophmores was enrolled in the fall of 2008.
The success rate of Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar, our program model, of retaining, graduating, and getting participating scholars into higher education is documented at 92- 96%. By helping at-risk students flourish academically and tracking their successes through their college careers, we have a program that is ready to take the next step toward systemic social change. The program has a demonstrated impact and measurable advances in educational and economic opportunities.
